Day 130: Suesie Hartman
“I think everyday life is out there for us to be inspired by. It’s a matter of looking at a glass as half full instead of half empty. The Universe is just filled with wondrous things; it’s a matter of us standing back a little bit sometimes to appreciate them.”

Toni Reece: Thank you so much, Suesie, for agreeing to be part of the Project today, and before we begin, can you introduce yourself?
Suesie Hartman: Certainly. First let me apologize in advance for my laryngitis; normally I don’t sound like this. My name is Suesie Hartman. I’m an energy worker and a healer, and I teach metaphysics basically to newbies, to people who are just getting into the whole realm of metaphysical and they come to me for answers.
Toni: Okay. Well Suesie, when you think about inspiration and what you do, who do you inspire and how do you go about that then?
Suesie: Well, inspiration to me comes on multiple levels, and I don’t think a person ever aims to inspire people. I don’t think that’s how it comes about. I think it’s just a natural evolution. If you are making correct choices in your life and you’re on the path to help others, I think the inspiration just happens.
Toni: Okay. How do you … do you believe that that happens with the work that you do with others or the relationships that you have?
Suesie: Definitely. I saw a quote one time, a long time ago that said that the best gift that you can give others is the gift of health, so that through my energy work I’m helping people relieve their pain. I’m helping people relax more, so I feel that I have the gift to give people the best gift possible.
Toni: So let me ask you then, with the work that you … you said that you’re an energy worker, a healer, and you’re into metaphysics. Can you, for those of us that aren’t familiar with that industry, can you describe how using and working in that field helps people to be inspired and, also, does it help them to explore their potential?
Suesie: Oh, it most definitely helps anyone explore their potential. Energy work — or what most people might be more familiar with is called Reiki — it’s basically channeling the energy from the Universe that keeps the sun in the sky and keeps our feet on the ground. And it’s on the premise … it works on the premise that when you’re not feeling well it’s because there’s negative energy in your body.
So in the process of Reiki or any other energy work, you’re basically using the Universal energy to push in good energy into someone’s body and push out the negative energy to help them become more healthy.
Toni: Okay, okay.
Suesie: So that’s the premise on how it works. I find that through my classes teaching people, other people, how to use Reiki so that they can help others, it’s very inspiring. There’s nothing better as a teacher to be around someone who has that first “ah-ha” moment when you can see the light bulb just went off in their head and it’s like “Oh my gosh, I know how to do this,” or “Oh my gosh, I understand.” So I think that’s the inspiration that happens in different classes at different levels for people.
Toni: So, just for my understanding and for those who are reading and listening to your interview, the way that you inspire others and help them to explore their potential is through Reiki, is through bringing that energy from the Universe into that person you’re working with so that they can release the negative energy and replace it with positive energy?
Suesie: Well, that’s … I would say that’s part of it. Most of us who are involved with metaphysics will agree that we’re on a path to enlightenment. Without sounding melodramatic, it’s a path to hopefully be making right choices in your life, so I’m hoping that I’m leading by example.
Toni: Okay.
Suesie: By making correct choices in my life, I am able to work with that experience and help others so that they can hopefully make the correct choices in their lives.
Toni: So when you think about inspiration, what do you need to be inspired?
Suesie: I think everyday life is out there for us to be inspired by. It’s a matter of looking at a glass as half full instead of half empty. The Universe is just filled with wondrous things; it’s a matter of us standing back a little bit sometimes to appreciate them.
Toni: So it’s noticing it.
Suesie: Yes.
Toni: Go ahead.
Suesie: Sharing that inspiration … when you finally feel that inspiration from nature, it’s sharing it with others, I think, is the true point of inspiration because it’s nothing if it’s not shared with others.
Toni: But for yourself, to be inspired, to do the work that you do, it’s to appreciate nature, to notice nature, to notice the positive in everyday life. What other things do you tend to reach for when you are at a place where you’re going “Yeah, you know, I think I could use a little inspiration today.” What do you find yourself reaching for?
Suesie: Actually, I find myself reaching inside, because I know that I have the gift to help people — maybe not necessarily, you know, heal them from some horrible illness, but I can help them feel better. I can help them feel better physically, and I can help them feel better mentally about themselves. So before I can do that, I have to be centered. I have to touch base with, I guess, the Source, you know, the Creator, in order to remind myself of the inspiration that I’m capable of.
Toni: Were you always of this mindset, Suesie? Did you live your life this way knowing that these were the gifts that you had, this is what made the most sense to you? Or was this an evolution that you went through or a moment in your life where you went “Yup, this makes sense?”
Suesie: Well, I’ve always been psychic. I come from a long family of psychics, so I’ve always known that there’s a lot more going on in the Universe than maybe the average person pays attention to. I would say that for a good portion of my life up through college, I tended not to be on the path because I think I had to grow more as a person in order to be able to help others.
The “ah-ha” moment … I’m trying to identify that more as a single experience. I think it’s the first time I laid hands on someone and could see them just feeling better, and you realize “Oh my gosh” that “I’m the channel for that energy.” And after that moment, just nothing’s the same because, once you have that skill, that gift, you just want to share it with anybody and everybody.
Toni: So what do you do and/or need to continue to explore your own potential?
Suesie: Well, I’m always trying to take other classes to see if, you know, maybe there’s a different spin on things. I’m always reading. I try and travel a bit to explore the world around me much more. Because if you stop learning, I think that would be the end of everything, because learning is just a daily process. Every single day there’s something to learn and something to benefit from, not just for yourself but for others.
Toni: Well you have been very, very enlightening in your interview to talk about your perspective on inspiration and what your take on that is, you know, in helping others and the gift of the energy work that you do, and that’s very, very interesting. And there’s going to be a lot of people from all over the world that are going to listen to this and go “Yeah, you know, I hadn’t thought about that”, or “Yep, I know that and it makes sense.” So, for the work that you do and coming to the Project and being as open about it as you have been, we thank you very, very much, Suesie.
Suesie: Oh, not a problem at all, Toni.
Toni: Thank you, and hopefully we will see more of you in the future.
Suesie: Thank you.
