“So we really are one.  And I think when we can all realize that, where there’s just a sense of relief releasing the old beliefs and then a sense of relief of that we are so connected.  And when people do have that solid sense of self, they can really go for it in life and connect with their heart and do what they want to do….”

Toni Reece: Thank you so much, Melanie, for agreeing to be part of the Get Inspired! Project today, and before we get into your interview, can you please introduce yourself?

Melanie Erceg: Sure.  Well thank you, Toni, for inviting me.  My name is Dr. Melanie Erceg, and I’m a psychologist and also founder of Therapy Headquarters, which is a nonprofit organization providing therapy, and also author of The Book of Life Questions and Answers.

Toni: Well thank you.  Melanie, when you think about that word inspiration, who do you think you inspire and how do you do that?

Melanie: Well hopefully those around me and like, you know, we’ve talked and it’s really about the energetic configuration of who you are and that really naturally inspires those around you.  I’ve given an analogy of, you know, a tuning fork where who you are kind of resonates with those around you and kind of boosts them to a higher level of awareness.  And there are so many who do that, and we recognize them and we just appreciate them in our world.

Toni: And so being around those people is the way that you inspire them, because there’s such a force between the two, whoever you’re around?  Is that how you inspire others?

Melanie: Well hopefully what I’m resonating is being out of the mind and in the heart, you know, in that feeling state.  And that’s really, you know, the balance to be here on earth where there’s so much mental activity happening.  And if we can really ground down more into our bodies and our hearts, that is what is hopefully inspiring people.

Toni: How do you know when you’re there?

Melanie: Well, we feel it, you know?  It’s the sense of feeling.  And it’s a funny question that you ask because in our world, I think we’ve almost found it to be normal to be so kind of … I guess the image would be kind of like a kite you know, like floating around and just from here to there and busy work lives.  And when we settle down, especially in meditation, you know, we can really feel and take a breath, and we know that we’re there.

Toni: By being in that place and knowing, feeling it and having other people benefit by that, how does that then help people to explore their potential, or what other ways do you help people explore their potential?

Melanie: I think that even happens through perception.  I mean, in my mind and my view — and we still do have the mind but it’s just not of a mind chatter — in my perception, I see people as completely empowered, and I’m just reminding them of that.  You know, as I talk to them — whether they’re my client or whether they’ve called Therapy Headquarters on the phone — that is their real state, so you know, anything that’s other than that is just an illusion.

Toni: Can you clarify that a little bit for those that are reading and listening to you?  What do you mean by that?

Melanie: Okay.  Ask me a specific question.

Toni: So, you said the people … it’s a perception and that you help people to feel empowered and that when they’re there they’ll know it.   How does that help them?  What does it … what happens?

Melanie: Well, I think a couple of things happen.  One is what we just talked about, is if I’m there in my energy and perceiving them as if they can be exactly who they want to be empowered in their heart, then it’s almost like they’re raising up to the level of “Yeah, I can be,” and it empowers them.

Second, I would give, you know, specific tools like “Try meditating” or “Take a walk in nature” because meditating raises our consciousness, for one thing, and being out in nature really connects us back to who we really are; just everything else falls away but what’s real to us.

Toni: So really your work gets back to centering someone into being who they really are.

Melanie: Yeah, exactly, and ridding any of the illusions that are false anyway.

Toni: So do you help them realize that they’re dealing with illusions?

Melanie: Yeah, I mean I think we all know them as “issues.”  You know, we call them our “issues” and they’re just all, you know, illusions and dramas, and they’re just things to work through to clear.  Then they clear out of our fields, and that’s that process of life in general here on earth is just to experience those often difficult situations that trigger our deeper feelings and blocks, and then rid them.

Toni: And so, what about you Melanie?  What inspires you?  What do you need to stay inspired?

Melanie: I really like connecting people together and uniting people.  I mean, I just do.  I feel like on this earth there’s been a lot of compartmentalization and even the illusion of separation, even though we know as Einstein said, the people and the space between the people are made up of the same thing, you know, on the sub-atomic level.

So we really are one, and I think when we can all realize that, where there’s just a sense of relief releasing the old beliefs and then a sense of relief of that we are so connected.  And when people do have that solid sense of self, I mean, they can really go for it in life and connect with their heart and do what they want to do, you know, now that all that sense of separation is gone and we feel more connected and as an earth society and in the universe at large.

Toni: And so can you … it’s interesting.  The words that you’re using are not words that have been used with some of the interviews before, so that’s why I hope you don’t mind that I’m asking you to define some of these, because they’re very interesting.  So part of your answer to what inspires you is that we are all connected and you make those connections in the earth society.  When you say the earth society and the universe, can you help me make that connection?

Melanie: Yeah, I feel in this particular planet, like I said, that there has been that sense of just separation and disconnected both within ourselves and with the planet and with each other, and I think we’re moving toward more unity; I do see that.  That goes back to what we just said before about how to be connected, staying connected within yourself inspires us to connect with the planet, steward the planet, as well as connect with each other on projects that, you know, ultimately are for our greatest benefit.

Toni: Well thank you for that.  Are there tools or methodologies, Melanie, that you tend to reach for when you’ve come to one of those places where you’re like “Oh, you know, I could use a little inspiration right about now?”

Melanie: Okay, what’s the question?

Toni: When you need to fill yourself up, when you need to be inspired, are there tools or methodologies that you tend to reach for?

Melanie: You know, I tend to really step out into nature.  That’s my thing, and that really just helps me and I just feel everything becomes clarified at that time.  And I always encourage people to do that and sometimes, you know, they’ll look like “What is that?” because we’ve gotten to such sort of a city society, we congregate in cities.  But when we do step out into nature, I mean, that greatly helps me, and I think most people feel the same way.

Toni: So that also tends to inspire you is to be around nature and to step into nature.

Melanie: Yeah, and I think the reason that is is because when I’m in nature, I’m more connected just as my real self and continually kind of creativity inspires from within me.  I’ll take a little, you know, notepad and jot like a note down in my pocket when thoughts come through, because inspiration naturally seems to derive from there.

Toni: Have you always thought about things in this manner, or was this an evolution for you to get to this place of connecting and getting really in touch with yourself and knowing what that means?  Was that an evolution or did you just know it?

Melanie: Well, when I was, you know, a young child as we all were at one time, I still do think the questions like what are we doing here and who are we, and those are some of the questions that continued into the book, but for a time such as, you know, my teens, and I think everybody probably experienced that.

You’re doing your thing, you’re very social, and it wasn’t really until my twenties I kind of started looking at spiritual books and reading and just going a little bit deeper within.  So at that point, it did become an evolution of, you know … it’s just like once you set the intention, then everything spirals into motion and a lot of clearing happens and so forth.

Toni: So you started to set your intention when you were in your twenties?

Melanie: I mean, it must have been on a deeper level, because it wasn’t like I just set out for it.  It just kind of like … maybe I picked up one book at the bookstore and then from there I thought “Oh, this spiritual information is fascinating; I want to learn more.”

Toni: Okay.  Well, what do you do to explore your own potential?

Melanie: To explore my own potential, I just make sure that I’m, you know, that everything else is away but what’s in my heart.  And I’ve really been doing that a lot lately just within meditations or when I have the free time to really go “Okay, what is it that is like an extra that I don’t need to be doing?”

So I really clarified and defined, and it’s just been a paring down process.  And I think it’s reflective of clearing, and I know a lot of us are doing a lot of clearing on the planet right now; and so I think that would naturally happen for everyone to be able do that paring down process, too, of their lives in connecting to what they really want.  Because if we are doing clearing — which I know that we are — it really helps define exactly how we want to spend our time here on earth and channel it into what we really love.

Toni: Can you give an example of why you believe that you think there is a major clearing on the planet going on?

Melanie: Oh, I just think that there is.  I mean … well first of all, the process of evolution in general is clearing fields, our energetic fields and growing, and I mean we all do that.  There’s so much downtime in life.  Sometimes we think “Oh no, life is about this or that,” but the main crux of it is clearing because I see it in clients, I see it in people, a lot of people who’ve been going through difficult times lately.

And I’m just here to tell them that it’s okay and it’s part of the process and even though it can seem really difficult, there are people here.  I mean, I’m here, you know, through Therapy Headquarters as are a panel of people as well as your own resources and even just knowing that when things seem difficult — like if you’re having a difficult time — that it’s okay; it is part of the process.

Toni: Well thank you for the information that you’ve given around your perspective on inspiration and potential.  It’s been very, very interesting, and we will have a link to your book and your website for those who would like to learn a little bit more about your ideas and how someone can learn more from you.  So for being part of the Get Inspired! Project today, we really thank you for that.

Melanie: Oh, absolutely.  You know, one of the last things – I know we’re closing up now – one of the last things I’d add is what’s been great about this Haiti situation is that it’s really shown us how really rich we are in our souls and reflected through the generosity that we’ve shown, so we do have it within.  This was a great example of who we are inside, truly.

Toni: Oh, I can’t agree with you more.  It has been a humbling experience to watch what people have done to step up to the plate to help, and so I couldn’t agree with you more, and what a great example.  Thank you so much.  It was a pleasure to talk to you today.

Melanie: You too, Toni, thank you.
