Toni Reece: Thank you so much, Debbie, for being part of this project, and before we go to the questions, could you please introduce yourself?
Debra Berndt: Sure. My name is Debra Berndt, and I’m also known as the world’s number one love hypnotist, and I help people attract the love of their life using the power of their subconscious mind.
Toni: Okay, well that leads us greatly into the first question, which is, when you are working with others or even the relationships around you, who do you inspire and how do you do that?
Debra: Well, I inspire single people, primarily, who struggle with dating. Many of my clients are over 35, and they feel as though their chance of love has passed them by. They feel too old or they feel they are never going to have children; they’re in a lot of pain, feeling very lonely, and I have been single until I was 41, so I know how that feels. And what I do is I help them find the power within themselves and inspire them to remove the blocks that are preventing them from attracting what they truly desire, which is a loving, healthy partnership, and so they can have that relationship that they dream of and be completely inspired and then inspire others.
When you feel good about yourself, that ripples out to everyone in your environment; your family, your workplace, the people in your community. I just think love is a beautiful thing, and we all are worthy of it, and I want to inspire single people to find that path to that love that is already there waiting for them.
Toni: How do you do that? How do you go about that inspiration?
Debra: Well, a lot of people when they teach a lot of the personal growth processes, they work on the conscious level; and as a hypnotist I work with the subconscious. The conscious mind is very logical, analytical, and it all makes sense, but on a subconscious level we have these programs deep within us that don’t necessarily match up to what we really want, and underneath on that subconscious level there are blocks to love — either fears or feelings of unworthiness — or beliefs that block us from having that true relationship. And with hypnosis, I actually have people bypass that kind of conscious part of their mind that kicks all these good ideas out into the subconscious, and when they go into the subconscious, they are able to rewrite those beliefs in that hypnotic state.
Typically, a single person can change their belief system within 30 days and attract the love of their life immediately. I had some people within an hour after doing an exercise with me meet their perfect person. Our subconscious mind is really responsible for our life. Everything in our life is a reflection of the subconscious mind, and the problem with the subconscious is that you can’t see it; the only way you see it is what you see in your life. It’s not something that you’re even conscious of — that’s why it’s subconscious — and with hypnosis it gives you an opportunity to access that powerful part of your creative being to get it in alignment with what you really want.
Toni: And how do you use that technique with others, as far as helping them explore their potential? I understand that it’s about their relationships and finding love, and how does that correlate to finding their potential?
Debra: Well, the problem with life is that we all think that the potential is limited and we have this part of our mind that is very limited and very rigid and it puts labels on things; and then within the subconscious, there is another realm which is the super-conscious. And the super-conscious is basically your unlimited potential, your creativity; and when you are in that altered state, you have access to all that creativity; almost, if you think about it, the creativity of the universe that people imagine that put men on the moon and made the new discoveries. Einstein actually put himself in a trance and developed the theory of relativity while he rode a light beam in his imagination.
So, think about what else is possible in your life. You can access your creative, divine self and look for those answers within and get inspired and see the potential of anything. There’s no limit in your mind, and you can get into that altered state that gets beyond logic and “I can’t do it,” to what else is possible, and there is just amazing, unlimited potential that you can tap into. And once you kind of infuse that subconscious with this added soup of unlimited potential, your life starts to expand and you start to become bigger than you ever thought you could be.
Toni: That’s very interesting. What do you need to be inspired, in order to do the work that you do? What do you look for? What do you seek?
Debra: Well, what I do is I really take each day and what I struggle with, because when we live in this world, enlightenment is something you have and then it sticks. It’s something you have these moments of and then you go back, you get moved into the typical everyday life. And we all have goals and we all have, you know, bodies that we have to take care of; and so as I go through my life, every moment where I feel like I’m not in alignment, I really look at it and say, “Well, how could I look at it differently,” and when I do that, it actually helps me teach others when they’re stuck in that. And so what inspires me is everyday simple struggles of life. Every problem is really an opportunity to be your best self and to uncover a deeper part of you. So, it’s not about saving the world. In a sense, it’s about saving yourself; and as I work with myself, it’s actually unfolding into a bigger picture how I can help other people.
Toni: Are there resources or tools that you use when you’re looking for that inspiration? When you’re experiencing the struggles of life, are there places that you go?
Debra: Well, I read a lot of Zen books and Buddhism books. They are very basic. One of my favorite books is — I can’t pronounce it — the Bhagavad Gita … I am so bad at pronunciations, I’m a little gringa; foreign languages aren’t very good for me. I call it the Gita, but it’s the battle of Arjuna and the Krishna and about just being in action and letting go of the results and so those — just the simple basic tenants that are similar in every religion, you know, really get down to the basics and the simplicity of life instead of trying to make it this complex idea — really helped me stay inspired and really see how it is just about whether you are living in that openness and that unlimited potential versus living in that really limited labeling — dualistic, this is right, this is wrong — and kind of the playing small versus playing unlimited and large.
So I just keep going back and forth; I mean, everyone does in their life, and so I use what shows up in my life as a tool for that, and then I get my inspiration from the books from thousands of years ago that they talked about this subject. And even though we’re a modern society now, these concepts are still very valid.
Toni: And do you use these tools and techniques as well, or are there others when you’re seeking to explore your own potential, so when you’re looking … you know, you said a lot of the work that you do is people find that their potential is very limiting, and so you take them through to a place where they have no limits, so how do you turn that inward?
Debra: Well, what I do is with visualization and metaphors, when I guide people through a hypnotic visualization. There are a lot of people that do visualization, but when you’re working with someone who is trained in hypnosis, they know exactly how to kind of work with the subconscious a little more. And what I do is I have them see where the blocks are in their own minds, so it’s like a journey within, and it’s metaphorical; and then I have them step into a scene of the future, and then I have them almost like a blank canvas fill in the details.
One of the wonderful techniques I do is I have them meet their future self 10 years in the future, and I have them go on a journey with that person that they are becoming, and I have the future self take their hand and show them what they’ve created in their life, and so it’s not like someone telling them what they should do and what their dreams should be; because there is no past to draw upon or no history to draw upon, that person actually taps into that unlimited potential and is forced, actually, to create something from nothing. Just like writing a fiction novel; the idea came from nothing, right, and so you are kind of creating your own story of what happens in your future and when you’re experiencing that and actually feeling like that’s possible, you move toward it.
Now, I did a future life progression about 8 years ago and I went 10 years, so two years of my future I was a famous author. I was with a partner that was amazing. At this point, I was still in the corporate world when I had this visual– I didn’t even do hypnosis– and I saw this center that I had, and I was working with kids with disabilities and with women that were heartbroken, and my boyfriend is a child psychologist that works with kids with autism and we talk about — before I even told him about this vision — about having a place where people can help each other and see the beauty in each other, and even though one part of their life is maybe not where they want it to be, that they can help each other reach their dreams together.
Like everyone has strengths, and so we just talked about this idea of not needing like a lot of money to create something like that where the community comes in and helps each other. And even the man I saw I was with looks just like my boyfriend now, and so we do have this intuition within us and this knowing that can really show us what’s ahead. Because in the subconscious mind, there is no time or space; it’s all happening at once, so you can really go into other realms of your consciousness. I mean, it’s really amazing. The basic is just kind of your ego consciousness of what you created in this life, and then there’s this other level of the super-conscious which is that unlimited potential and all these other worlds that you can create from that. So it’s really an amazing experience, and there’s so much accessible inside where you don’t really have to go outside to find it, you can just really go inside. You have everything within you to realize that.
Toni: Listening to you talk, I can hear that you absolutely … the way that you work with others and get them to that unlimited potential journey that you take them on, as well as your own journey of your future self and now you’re experiencing that in the present. What do you do in the present now to help you continue to explore your own limitless potential?
Debra: Well, what I do when I don’t know what to do … when I get up in the morning and I work out of my home –and I do a lot of sessions over the phone, so I work with people all over the world from my beautiful desk right here, and I have a beautiful view of the water from my window, it’s just an amazing life I have — but sometimes I say, where am I needed, and so what I do is I just do a meditation. I go inside, and I have this like image of my divine self or this wise self, and I just ask her, “What should I do today? Where do I go today?” And that’s where I get my inspiration.
Of course, I work with mentors and coaches and people around me and a mastermind — those external people — but I find that the truth is always within you, and you have everything you need within you; and if you can find a way to map yourself to there and find that line of connection to that part of you, anything’s possible, and then you can be inspired by yourself. And that’s really amazing.
And also know that you are more than just your physical body. You are more than just the person; like I’m more than just Debra Berndt. I am this being that is capable of anything, and to just know that and be connected with that every day, you can really move mountains. I have a book that’s going to be a bestseller; it’s not released yet, but it was just an idea in my mind five or six years ago. I had this idea that I was going to write this book, and now it’s real, so it’s like everything comes from these ideas and so to find that pathway to open up to that vault of ideas and make it real and match it with you is just amazing. It’s magic.
Toni: So, the work that you do with yourself as far as, you know, asking the “what can I do today” and “who needs me today,” and exploring your own limitless potential sounds as though that work that you do also correlates greatly to the work that you do with others?
Debra: Yes. It’s all the same. I find that when I’m struggling with something and I overcome it, I have a flood of people that have the same issue, and it’s like, “Oh, I just went through that so I can tell you, help you, guide you through the process that I found that worked for me.”
Toni: That is amazing. I cannot thank you enough for your time today in providing this snapshot of a wealth of information between what you need to be inspired but also how you inspire and help other people explore their potential, and so many people are going to benefit from this interview and learn from it, so from my point of view and the Get Inspired! Project, we’re honored to have you be part of it.
Debra: Well, I’m honored to be a part of it. It’s a wonderful idea and just amazing and I can just imagine where this is going to go.
Toni: Well, thank you so much, Debbie, and I look forward to talking to you again soon.
